“Building the Winning Team with Heart” After 15 years running the education bussines, i found many challenge in building the team. From the poor skill, bad attitude until low motivation of the team members. Finally i understand the essential in building the winning team in bussines and life. These are the five steps that i summaries from the 3 modul that i learn in SMI ( DPGS, Successful Management & the Art of Empowering People). These steps are the implemention from the concept into real actions, so i will explain it with the simple language and easy to read, not like a theory from the book. These five steps are; 1. Sinergize your Corporate goals with Personal goals 2. The effective way to boost up the team perfromance 3. Put the Right Man at the Right Position (plan of Growth) 4. Build the Champion Mindset in all team members 5. Empowering team Leaders that have sense of crissis Step One. “It’s company goals not me “ said one of the staff. Yess we heard alot of this opinion from the team members, they don’t have ownership and attachment to the company big goals or Vission. In their mind the company and their personal goals don’t have any realation at all. I learn to handle this situasion, how? Using the wheel of Life, they understand that in life there’s 6 aspect that they need to develop. One of the aspect is carrer, so if they achieve goals in company that mean they achieve one of that aspect. After that we make together what’s their dream in life, every one must make at least 30 dreams and write it down in their Master Dreams list. 5 dreams from 6 aspect = 30 dreams. After their write the personal goals, you can feel the postive and bigger energy from them. They have more passion and understand the purpose of life. After that more easier for Us to sinergize with the Corporate Goals. Some team members also like to focus first in 3 aspect, ussualy carrer, health and family. Step Two. “So many things to do in so little time” said one of the staff with a sad face. Remember in our high school, usualy we have a team like basket ball team or volly team. And each of the team have name and compite each other. Yess, it also happen in the real work life, if we dont make any positive competion atmosfer, the working condition isnt condusif. So we make small group in every dept. That have 6 persons in it with one group leader. Each of the group will have their own group name and yell2. We also set the group regulation and value like; pro active, honest, open comunication, fisrt thinhgs first, and etc. To boost up their perfromance also we implement the 90 days plan and tracking goals sheet. So every week can monitor, evaluate and have better action plan. With implement this method the team performance increase 50% in just two month period. Each the team try to show that their team is the best, and to appriciate that we also choose “Best team of the Month”. The first best team in one year period will win the holiday trip to Bali. Step Tree. “ So strees with the staff that heve bad attitude and poor skill” said one of the hrd manager. After 90days plan of Goals. Each the Dept, as a manager need to have their team “Plan of Growth” eather from soft skill and also hard skill. And again the ideas is from the basket team, remember that America they have their Dream Teams that fulfil with talented give in their own position. Every one is uniq, so we re-schufle again our team dept. Mix. Like i have one of my staf from the ap unit now doing so great in marketing, because she have more talent in confincing people. Smart leader really know how to choose and combine the strength of their team members. Again we have also 90 days plan “Coaching and Mentoring” program that the new staff that get mutation need to follow this program. Step Four. “ My team partner never support me and to many task from the boss“ said one of the staff. We did alot of self talking and the bad mews almost 70% are negative. So in our team we must choose our own role model, like leaders and famous person. We studied their mindset, believe, behaviour, atttitude and live principt. We also must keep his picture in our wallet, to makesure when we breakdown, we can remember the positive spirit of that person. We also share success strory every week, to maintain our commitment and spirit high. And the Best things we also celeberate our monthly achievement, with doing this we make our relation closer and better. And the good news are, all the team members now working with their heart and more passion. One of my team member said “ Love what you Do and Do what you Love”. Our office now allready be a second for them, we can share anythings personal life problem until working challenge. Step Five. “ I don’t like to learn new things and new way in doing my job“ said one of the Manager. Leaders in group is sellected by the team usually because they smart, helpful and active. But they also have tendency to stay at the comfort zone. So the effective way, sometime also let other team member take the leadership role. By doing that, they feel challenge it again to show their performance. And also by doing the creative punishment, like if the worst team must serve the winning team like a boss. And the worst team will get a bad nick name, and they must fight to get their real name again. All of this games can build a positive conditions in working and with the sportive spirit. All of this steps the most important things is the skill of comunication of the leader to persuate and confince the team to always give 100% to pursuit their goals in company and life. With these five steps i achieve many of my goals In 2011. The company target increase 3 times and not just that, i can see all the team member value and relationship is growing stronger and stronger each day.

I just wanted to send you a quick note to let you know how the kit (Dynamics of Personal Goal Setting)is going. Since I have been using it the last 3 months I have made measurable progress in my life. Before starting with the kit, I thought that to be financially well off was the only real measure of a person's success, but since then I have learned that it is only one part of the wheel that together makes up a successful person. Just this alone has led to me achieving goals in areas of my life that I would never have dreamed of doing previously. For example, since starting the program I have set a goal to exercise 5 days a week for no less than 40 minutes each day. I was 29 years old when I first became acquainted with Success Motivation Institute International, Inc. I was a seminary student pursuing a Masters of Divinity degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and worked full time as a Customer Service Representative at Sprint's National Service Center in Dallas. Back then Sprint was called US Telecom and the company was fiercely competing for the post de-regulation long distance market of the Bell Telephone system. I went to your course titled, "Need to Excel: The $10 Million Personal Success Plan". For the first time in my life I was challenged to plan for the future by setting clear and specific goals. Your seminar taught me to set my sights on what I was to become by considering goals in physical, spiritual,relational, occupational,financial and ethical dimensions of my life. So, with little experience and the belief that goals could be achieved, I followed your plan. I have continued this process every three years since 1988. The following accomplishments are directly related to the planning skills I used at your seminar. I am currently serving as a Bible college President at Hispanic Baptist Theological School, soon to be renamed Baptist University of the Americas. I hold a BA in Management, a Masters of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees and am pursuing a PhD in Leadership. I serve as Chairman of the Hispanic Outreach Taskforce of the White House Initiative for Hispanic Academic Excellence and the list goes on. I had never imagined that I would leave such a landmark in my home town.
When I reconnected with you (Ian Dawson) some 8 to 10 years ago, I put you in touch with Paul Robinson, a business associate who raised money through me and started as a SMI distributor. As a sponsor of his business I also bought an SMI programme, The Dynamics of Personal Goal Setting and on a largely "self taught" basis used it to great effect. Ian, I had been trained as a Strategic Planner but had not ever done a Strategic Plan for myself. Within the SMI process and the next year to 18 months, my programme goals became a reality as I pulled off a Management Buy Out and in my spare time undertook a major property development in the High Income Suburbs. I had never imagined that I would leave such a landmark in my home town. At the time that I was doing the programme, I "connected" with the approach and content and subconsciously decided that if I ever changed my career I would give SMI a go. I never doubted that this would be what I would do as it seemed so possible and great fun as well. Well in 2001/2002 the opportunity arrived and you will recall me asking for a meeting and advising you that many years after using the programme I was going to join up as a distributor and at the same time set up in Cape Town and at over 50 start a new career in a strange city in a different country. A few felt I was mad as I was then MD of the company I had a big block of shares in and had seemingly arrived... Well it's been a challenging and tremendously enjoyable experience re-inventing myself, re-establishing the family and getting a new business up and running has been a serious undertaking. So much so that I used Paul's "Attitude is Everything" frequently to get me operating at my best levels for years. For SMI in Cape Town, new challenges arrive monthly as I and a team of SMI Zealots build the SMI South African business to be one of the SMI strongholds of the World. We have a long way to go, but it's a "cinch by the inch" approach that we use and the personal growth and successes of our team and clients are with us daily. The result-no I have control over my time and what I do with it. The benefits-once I had developed clear, focused objectives for my business I started looking round for ways to deliver them. Almost immediately I found a really good opportunity for accomplishing them. By remaining focused, thanks to the weekly workshops you held, I worked out what I had to do to achieve my objectives, overcame all the obstacles, landed the contract and am now busy manufacturing products for a PR agency. Do I recommend the course to anyone reading this letter? Very definitely. Why? I owe my success in business, and in life, to SMI and the great program they produced.
One evening in early 1965 one of the Sales Representatives with Success Motivation International called on me at my home. He told me he wanted me to listen to something that would change my life. I invited him in, at which time, he placed a small portable record player on my living room sofa. He then pulled out one of the thirty third records from his sales kit: the name of this recording was called The Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale. After listening for only a few moments I immediately felt that this was the most powerful and profound information that I had ever heard in my entire life of twenty five years. I immediately started absorbing the most fantastic information. As time went on this created within me the desire to purchase additional self-help books and materials. I couldn't get enough of these real professionals that had all this great knowledge. With their help, I soon learned how to apply it to my own circumstances and betterment. After a short period of time of absorbing the SMI information I soon became restless in my job. Being extremely motivated and with a strong desire to apply what I learned, I thought it was time to go into business for myself. The extra motivation came in 1965 when my wife and I, married now for forty six years, went to a movie, the title, The Carpetbaggers, a story of Howard Hughes. This movie along with the SMI information that I had been absorbing for a few months, was so overwhelmingly powerful that I told my wife during the movie that I was quitting my job the next morning and going into business for myself. Which I did. The lessons learned through these great men and the tools they used, the lessons of setting goals, planning, work ethics and integrity has created in me the confidence that no matter what I desire to achieve and/or accomplish, that all things are possible. After completing this course, and your kind guidance throughout it, I felt it necessary to thank you for your support over the previous weeks and also necessary to write a testimonial for you, which you can show to other potential clients. I believe there is nothing more positive than a direct referral. Thank you once again for all your help. I have always been a very self-motivated person and have strived to do the best I can for myself and others. For many years, I worked for an estate agency and I was tied down to other people’s ideals and budgets. I was fortunate enough to come into some early inheritance and I decided the best thing for me was to set up my own business and run it the way I thought best. In January 2000 our doors opened, I had a business partner, a secretary and no properties in our window. Nothing to sell but myself and a great belief in my abilities to create a company that would change estate agency as I saw it. My company grew and although it was hard work and long hours, often seven days a week. I persevered and pushed forward until we got to the stage of where I had four offices and about thirty staff. Then suddenly my world started to fall apart. I seemed to have worked myself out of a productive job in my own company, as I employed other people to do the managerial positions within the offices. I was lacking direction in my career. Coupled with this, I seemed to have an awful lot of internal staff problems which I was spending the majority of my time trying to resolve and juggle. It was causing me many sleepless nights, trying to convince people to see the “big picture” and not just their individual benefits and needs. This coincided with the complete breakdown in my personal life and my marriage, I had been married for just over two years and met with my wife approximately four years prior to that. Since our marriage, our relationship had physically deteriorated and had caused me an awful lot of emotional distress to such extent that we started to drift apart to a point where we could no longer bridge the gap that had opened up between us. I really had lost faith in my abilities as a human being to be able to control my destiny and to give helpful support to others. Love in my life, I realized, was a major factor in the production of my future and the main reason for me striving to build a business that was successful, profitable and one that I was proud of. Without a real reason for making it work, I had lost sight of how to manage people and how to manage myself. At one point I was thinking about “jacking it in” and buying the first ticket at the airport and finding an island to escape to discover myself all over again. Fortunately, I did not do this. By chance, I happened to meet a young man by the name of Terry Mienie at a leaving party for a mutual friend. We started drinking and talking together and realized we had a few things in common. His family had come over from the troubles in Zimbabwe to make a new life in Britain and his father, Basil, was promoting S.M.I. products in Britain. Terry told me about the motivational courses that his father was providing. I had already decided to make many changes within my business at that stage to alter how things were being run and how staff were being trained and interacting with each other. I had decided to spend a lot of money to try to get this right. It dawned on me that I was trying to help them but doing nothing for myself. I asked Terry if I could make an appointment with his father to discuss the courses that S.M.I. were offering which he did. I met up with Basil and John Harris. They came to my offices and sat down with myself and my business partner, Richard, and told us about the courses they were providing and what they could do for us and our futures. They weren’t cheap, and my business partner pretty much held the purse strings, as money has never been the driving force in my life. Richard could see the benefits that this course could possibly do for me but consciously thought that it wasn’t for him. We agreed to purchase a management business course, which I thought would help greatly with my interaction with my staff and putting us in the right direction with our business, which it did. It was a twelve week course which, when I started, it felt very much like a teacher/pupil situation and really felt it was going to be too much for me to take on board with everything else that was going on around me. But three weeks into the course I realized there was no teacher or pupil apart from myself, I was one and the same. Once this had clicked in my mind, the whole course changed drastically for me. I realized how essential it was for me to look at all aspects of my life in order for it to be enjoyable and a thing to cherish. I now have more happiness than I seemed to have had in an awful long time. I am proud of who I am and the company that I own, the energy that I give to my company is as if it was the first day I opened the doors. The relationship with my staff is healthy and enjoyable. The relationship with my family and friends is hugely rewarding. Although I am still going through a divorce, the relationship with my wife is extremely amicable and we have been able to discuss and move forward with both our lives for the right reasons and help each other make the transition to “singledom” again. All of this has been difficult but rewarding as I have grown and become the person that I have loved in the past and had forgotten about. Spiritually, I have begun to read my scriptures again and strive to aid and help other people in all forms and manners. But the most important thing is I have found love and enjoyment. I have my dreams back, my goals and reasons for getting up in the morning and wanting to work and wanting to succeed. The company has become stronger, we have opened two new departments, Land & Development and Homes Abroad. If there is any body out there reading this story, and you are uncertain about whether you should spend £2,500 on a course in my opinion it is a drop in the ocean for the life you will get back is a rewarding and fulfilling one. Financially, the money that I have spent I have had returned ten fold and I am sure that will continue as I continue the course, but mentally you cannot measure the cost and benefits of having a happy mental mind. On the physical side of things, I train every day, I have become stronger and I am happier with my body than I have ever been since I was 25. Success is not genetically inherited. There is no guarantee that if our parents are successful then we are successful too. Success is not also a result of a marriage. Success is not achieved from physical appearance. It is not necessarily that a muscle man will become more successful than a tiny man. Success can not be seen from what he/ she has or wears or drives. Success is a journey and process. The process that values someone's success. We cannot be successful achieving someone else’s goals. Everyone has to set and achieve their own personal goals to realize their own success. After, I graduated from my college, Bogor Agricultural Institute, majoring in mathematics, I started working as a personal assistant of the Ekalokasari Plaza’s Owner. Then the responsibilities, one by one have been trusted to me until I now lead several companies. I work at PT Indah Pesona Bogor, a company which owns a mall that is called Ekalokasari Plaza (E-Plaza). E-Plaza is the first plaza in Bogor city with a one-stop shopping concept. Starting with PT Indah Pesona Bogor its business has been growing very fast and has expanded into several other businesses, from building developer, marketing, building management, advertising, and food and beverages. Of course these are very challenging opportunities for me to lead these companies. Challenges, obstacles, problems, and opportunities all come together side-by-side. I am very thankful, that I made a huge decision by taking Success Motivation International program last July 2004 and attended the six Plan of Action workshops over six weeks. From the initial presentation you gave, I could see the potential value of the process you described in the individual analysis and the setting of goals to the different areas of our lives. Some of us do this better than others, but all could no doubt be improved upon. In the practice of Architecture and the process of design, through the development of details to the completion of a building, we as an industry have, over many years developed methods and processes to take us from the seed of an idea to the completion of a building project. That process starts with the analysis of the particular requirement broken down to the constituent parts, from which each element can be considered in detail and proposals made,one step at a time, considering all necessary relationships until the whole picture is complete. The concept of this process is the same for a small project as a large one. In the same way, the SMI course I followed has a framework which assisted me in areas of my personal life and in the running and development of the practice. Through your positive facilitation meetings,you have assisted me most ably through the analysis of the constituent parts, and in the development of my framework for organizing and tracking the progress of these different areas of activity. This has also proved to be very successful within the practice in assisting us to focus on our systems, organization and services, and concentrate and gain the preferred type of work from existing and new clients. To a large degree it had been the adoption of this process which has assisted us in supporting the positive attitude and producing beneficial results. Recently my business has taken on a new lease on life since the inception of this SMI program.
I am writing to send you an update on the SMI program I have recently begun. I am a well established agent with State Farm and have been in business for 40 years. Recently my business has taken on a new lease on life since the inception of this SMI program. We have taken an aggressive stance and are proactively going after business instead of waiting for it to come to us. Out of 33 agents in our area we were #1 in sales for the month of June and plan on being #1 in July. We have seen measurable results despite the fact that we cannot write new auto or home policies. we have seen a remarkable change in the office atmosphere as well as the relationship of the staff. We have expanded the business and moved into the Financial Services arena. SMI has helped us considerably to put in place goals we want to achieve and what it will take to help us reach those goals. When you first introduced me to SMI I was having a lot of trouble getting my life organized. I seemed to be spending a lot of time and effort without getting enough results. In the past six months, by putting your lessons in action, I have identified my high pay-off activities and organized more time for other parts of my life. Business is booming with pre-set goals being achieved and exceeded. My home life is happier and one sector at a time I am finally getting things together. The Dynamics of Goal Setting Program has proven to be one of the best investments I’ve made in myself. It has allowed me to develop goals for all areas of my life that are in balance.
